#1 Reason 90-year-old Okinawans Look and Live Younger
If you've been with me for a while, you already know that I've always been fascinated by how certain populations around the globe appear to be far healthier, and live longer, than those of us in the U.S.
And one region that I find particularly intriguing is Okinawa, Japan.
It's well-known that the Japanese have the longest lifespans in the world.
And, when it comes to longevity, the area of Okinawa stands above the rest.
In fact, Okinawa is home to over 400 centenarians; people over age 100.
But, it's not just that the people of Okinawa live longer. They live much younger, too.
They remain productive, active, and sharp as a tack well into their 90s.
And, they look decades younger.
They have strong bones. (Hip fractures are extremely rare over there.)
And, memory concerns are almost non-existent.
What's their secret?
The general scientific consensus is that nutrition is a huge factor in their legendary energy and longevity.
And, what do they eat a lot of? Kombu.
Pronounced KOM-boo, this sea vegetable delivers 20 times the minerals of land plants.
Plus, it has all of the 56 minerals and trace minerals your body needs to function, including omega-3 fatty acids, fiber and a full spectrum of B-vitamins.
This "super seaweed" is also rich in iodine which supports thyroid health.
In fact, kombu has a higher iodine content than any other seaweed; about 95 times that of nori and more than 4 times that of hijiki.
But, perhaps most impressive is what kombu can do for your telomeres.
In human studies, kombu has been shown to help stop the shortening of telomeres.
And, that's a good thing.
Because, longer telomeres equals a longer life.
You see, your telomeres are the protective caps on your DNA that guard your body from aging.
Each time your cells divide, your telomeres get shorter.
The shorter they get, the faster you age.
And, when they run down entirely, your cells stop dividing altogether.
They just die.
And, this can reduce your lifespan.
What can cause your telomeres to shorten?
Well, diet is one.
Research has found a link between diets high in ultra-processed foods and shortened telomeres.
Another? Stress… something we’re all probably feeling a lot of these days with everything that’s going on in this country.
That’s where kombu comes in.
You see, kombu has been clinically shown to put the brakes on shortening telomeres.
And, it may be the #1 reason those 90-year-old Okinawans look and feel years younger.
You might not find kombu at your regular grocery stores, but Asian markets probably carry it.
Or, you can even get it on Amazon.
The seaweed is pretty easy to incorporate into your diet.
You can add it to vegetables, soups, beans, or stew dishes.
Or, grind it into a powder that can be sprinkled on salads or added to smoothies.
Bursting with nutrition, this vegetable is one sea treasure you don't want to miss out on.
