As COVID-19 Infections Rise, Face mask Mandates Decline

The number of new coronavirus cases is rising in more than one-half of the states. Including Michigan where new cases have jumped from a daily average of just over 1,000 to well over 7,000.

This increase is attributed to several factors. Including virus variants making strides. In fact, the UK variant is now the dominant coronavirus strain in America.

Another factor is pandemic fatigue. Some people are getting tired of being careful.

Health organizations say wearing facemasks helps limit the spread. Anything blocking airborne droplets from traveling from an infected person to a healthy person would logically help.

Yet 12 states have dropped their facemask mandates this year. Nearly another dozen never had facemask mandates.

In a moment I’m going to give you a current state-by-state look at these mandates. Then I’m going to provide you with a chance to voice your opinion on this subject.

No One-Size-Fits-All Mask Regulations

There are very few U.S. federal mandates for face mask wearing during this pandemic. Everyone is required to wear a face covering while using public transportation. And while inside public transportation hubs.

In addition, face masks are required for people when inside federal buildings and on all federal lands. Other than that, it is up to state governments to determine when and wear face masks are required.

Even in states with mandates, the details can differ significantly. Some require face coverings every time someone leaves their home. Others allow for exceptions based on social distancing protocols.

In a number of states where there is no state mandate, individual cities and counties may impose mask mandates. In no state are children under the age of 2 required to wear a mask, per the CDC.

What Do You Think?

As promised, here’s a chance for you to chime in.

Do you believe there should be a federal mandate requiring everyone to wear face masks in public?

Or do you believe this type of mandate should be left up to individual states?

Or do you believe there should be no face mask mandates anywhere in the U.S.?

I realize this subject can be controversial. It lends itself to strong opinions. But let’s be civil with our comments and respectful of others’ opinions. Hope to hear from you about this.

I have read the articles mentioned in previous responses and whole heartedly agree that masks should not be required. Not only for reasons already stated but also according to Dr F’s study from 10 years ago masks lead to fungal infections of the lungs and other problems more deadly than the virus.
Between tiny lint particles from cloth masks and the cancer causing chemicals used to sanitize the paper masks it is not even reasonable. Those afraid have always had the right to wear a mask even when not in an “emergency.” Many states have no mask mandate and people still wear them. It just should be our right to practice herd immunity. It is what our body was designed for.

Should be Left to individual . This virus is a political . Open state

I wore a face mask everywhere outside the home and still contracted Covid in December. I used hand sanitizer and went very few places. I don’t know where I got it and wasn’t in contact with anyone who had it. I believe the research that has come out saying face masks are ineffective.
I don’t think it should be mandated by either the government or the states and be left up to the individual. Especially now that we’re beginning to be vaccinated.

Andrew G. (Gordy) Schnabel - April 26, 2021

I live in FL and wear a mask in public places out of shear courtesy to others. I have been vaccinated and am not COVID crazy but you don’t know what you don’t know. It is a minor inconvenience and I don’t believe the federal government should regulate it but states with large outbreaks should. GOV DeSantis has done a great job striking the right balance in our state response to COVID, other governors haven’t.

I agree with everyone here. Every aspect of this plandemic has been a lie, from start to finish. I can say this confidently because I have researched this for hours per day, nearly every day for a year. However, even if there were a deadly disease to be afraid of, still, the one most important principle that nixes masks and all other draconian measures is our natural, God-given rights as expressed in the Constitution. We have sovereignty over our own bodies. Our health is our responsibility, others’ health is their responsibility. In addition, many other rights belonging to us have been trampled. We have the right to move freely in our own country, the right to assemble, the right to worship, etc etc. I am appalled at the number of citizens that don’t understand that 1) freedom and sovereignty are important and 2) you have to exercise these freedoms constantly in order to keep them. I live in a state in which the governor has “mandated” masks for a year. No, I have never worn a mask. Neither has my child. I muster my courage and show my naked face at shops, restaurants, grocery stores, and every other place I possibly can. I Will never take the vax cocktail either. Would die before doing any such things.

Masks have become nothing more than a political tribal symbol. The “mandates” are overt tyranny. The latest data and research comes from Stanford which not only indicate masks do not help, but can and do damage to one’s health.

Common knowledge of true science, rather than the scientism of the Covidian Cult will provide safety. If a person chooses to wear an entire bio suit is none of my business. Likewise, I need no mask Stasi. Thank You!

I am also a senior citizen who lives in a condo complex where there are other seniors who share common space for laundry. If someone is already in the laundry area, I will wear a mask and stay as far away from them as possible. We are all in this together.

diane henkle - April 26, 2021

This is all about government control…I am against vaccine passports and against mandatory masks, let people live their lives.

Ann Piechowiak - April 26, 2021

I don’t know if masks work or not, but I if on the chance they do, I would rather not be the person who gives the virus to someone or multiple people who end up with serious consequences or death as a result. Even with vaccination, it is not known if someone can be a carrier. As much as I have serious difficulties with breathing under a mask, I am willing to try to protect myself and others.

Bill Meyers - April 26, 2021

Their should be no law/order for anyone to wear face masks. In addition no one should have the right to mandate you, or your children must be injected with big Pharma poisons.
