Look as good as you feel

I’m a firm believer in “you’re only as old as you feel.”

I know plenty of people older than I am that run circles around the younger folks.

They have the right attitude about life. They eat right. They move their bodies.

And they have energy to burn.

But it can be a wake-up call when the person “inside you” doesn’t match what you see in the mirror.

Aging is inevitable. And as my father used to say, it beats the alternative.

Still. Nobody likes wrinkles or looking older than they’d like to… if the billions of dollars spent on surgeries, cosmetics and other treatments is any indication.

Florida is home to a lot of older folks. And quite a few who spend big bucks on trying to beat back Father Time.

If you want to stop your skin from losing shape, firmness or elasticity, there are things you can do about it. And they don’t all involve a fancy doctor.

The first is pretty obvious. Protect yourself from the sun. Don’t cook yourself on the beach or the golf course, wear a hat, and be sure to use sunscreen if you’re going to be exposed. Natural sunscreens that contain zinc are highly recommended.

Next, I’d suggest regular use of a moisturizer, particularly as you get older. Keeping your skin supple, and preventing dryness, is a key to retaining smoother skin. This is often a habit women do regularly, but guys just don’t. But they should…

Unless you want to look like the Marlboro Man.

And speaking of him, I shouldn’t have to tell you, man or woman… don’t smoke. Smoking is terrible for your body, but also bad for your skin. So lay off the tobacco, and while you’re at it, it’s best to use alcohol in moderation as well.

Now, what you put in your body can be just as important as what you put on it. Antioxidants like CoQ10 help beat back free radicals, which don’t just age you on the inside, but the outside too.

And a healthy dose of collagen protein will help you replenish what’s lost to the sands of time. Loss of collagen leads to skin that loses strength and begins to sag. A highly absorbable collagen like we use in Patriot Power Protein helps add it back, to keep you feeling – and looking younger.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to look your best. Healthy skin not only keeps you looking younger, but strong skin is less susceptible to injury too, and heals faster if you do get a cut or scrape.

And while you’re at it, fill up your plate with foods like fish, avocados and nuts. They’re not only are great for your body – especially your heart – but they can help protect your skin’s healthy glow too.

We probably all want that, even if guys like me are reluctant to admit it.
