Things to do for Mother's Day

Mothers & your health. Name a better duo.

Moms are the ones who made you eat your veggies as a kid, cleaned up your scrapes and bruises & took care of you when you were sick.

And so on Mother’s Day, I want to flip the script. Instead of your mom focusing on your health, let’s focus on supporting our moms’ health.

What should I know about my mom's health?

Well for starters, let's look at the top 5 health issues facing women in the US according to WebMD:

  1. Heart disease
  2. Breast cancer
  3. Osteoporosis
  4. Depression
  5. Autoimmune diseases

That's a scary list. But don't worry — there are some things your mom can do to keep up with her health. Here's what the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services recommends:

  • Routine screenings and checkups
  • Add physical activity in their day
  • Healthier eating habits
  • Nixing bad habits, like smoking
  • Reducing stress
  • Getting quality sleep

These are a few ways you can encourage your mom to stay healthy this Mother’s Day. But you probably want a few things you can do today.

How can I give my mom a healthy Mother’s Day?

There's plenty of ways to make Mother's Day both happy & healthy. For starters, you could make a healthy brunch. Instead of going out to eat & racking up calories, stay in and make some healthy alternatives.

Or you could simply take a stroll through the neighborhood or even work in the garden? Getting out in the sun & doing physical activity is a great way to keep mom happy, healthy & wise.

Whatever you do, make sure to tell your mom a Happy Mother’s Day from me.

And if you’re a mom reading this, Happy Mother’s Day. Thank you for all you do.
