Sunday Thoughts (gone camping)
I talk a lot about Florida. It's where I live. But growing up we used to camp quite a bit in the pacific northwest. I love Florida, but that area up there is beautiful. It's hard to beat some of those views.
Now, while camping season may be over… vacation season is just heating up… literally. As I'm writing this Florida is under a heat advisory. And let me tell you, camping in the pacific northwest has never looked better. Looks like the area around there has a high of 65 for the next week. Sounds nice.
Don't get me wrong. I've camped all over Florida too. And without getting all "woo-woo" on you… there's something special the heat can teach you. It does a pretty good job of poking at your mental toughness. Which helps you find your "limit" pretty quickly.
If it sounds like I rough it. I do. I'm not into the whole "glamping" scene. Nothing against those folks, it's just not my thing. If you don't know what glamping is… it's the combination of the words "glamorous" and "camping" smashed together. You can probably understand what it means from there.
I think camping is supposed to be rough. It's supposed to teach you a lesson. Like the Florida heat. And what better teacher is there than mother nature? If you want to find out what you're made of… she'll gladly let you know. Now look, I'm getting older. So if you're older too, don't take this all to heart. I'm not going to think you can't "hack it" because you're 70 and don't want to sleep on the ground. (I don't want to either.)
I guess what I'm trying to say is… go "glamping." Haha. No, that's just a joke. What I'm saying is… think outside the box for your vacation. And maybe go where all the people are not going. For example, if everyone vacations on the beach… go camping.
Not only will you get the rest and relaxation you need. But you'll be fully immersed in nature. Getting to take in all the sights and sounds. Without the distraction of your fellow campers. Plus, when was the last time you learned anything about yourself from laying on the beach?
Probably never.
And depending on where you camp, it's a great way to beat the heat.
See you on the trails. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
